May I introduce you to our dog, Midas? Midas is a Fila Brasileiro, purchased by my adult son out of Texas as a 16 week old puppy. Midas came to live with me and my family four years ago, when his owner had to leave the country for a work assignment. When he came back to the US, he was engaged to be married, and his new fiancé is uncomfortable with big dogs. I am moving to a city environment due to my job, so I will be unable to permanently adopt him. This is breaking my heart. He is a fantastic dog, and incredibly sweet, given the time to adjust to new people. I can only hope that the joy he has given us for these last five years will now be shared with others.
He is a five year old neutered male, reverse brindle fawn and black. He weighs about 120 pounds, is in excellent health, and has documentation for clear hips and eyes. He is frequently left alone for short periods of time and does not chew or soil. He will get to âplayingâ with our other dogs and occasionally, there will be a chair tipped or a towel that obviously endured a tug-o-war. He is delighted to see us when we come home, but is well-behaved when we are gone. Midie loves company, and wants to share the house with his owners. He sleeps in my bed with me at night.
Midas is an amazing dog, exemplifying the Fila characteristics of loyalty, protectiveness, and intelligence. He is well-trained, obedient, very, very loyal and he is an exceptional watch dog. He will greet you excitedly when you return home and will look forward going outside to play. He loves to fetch his Frisbee, showing great pride when he snags it mid-air, and he plays people games like hide-and-seek and tag. He loves to swim, and we take him to our community beach where he will retrieve sticks from the water. He has a lot of space to run on our fenced property, and he shares the space with two other dogs and our three cats, but he seldom goes anywhere and we donât have a lot of visitors at our home. He tolerates new people once he has had a chance to get to know them and is confident that they are accepted by us.
Midas has a vast vocabulary, and we canât even get away with spelling words like âvanâ and âplayâ anymore without detection. Some of his other words are: Come, sit, stay, lay, go to the bathroom, stand down, ânot yoursâ, no, no kitty, no Kai (other dog), up, down, give me daps, gentle, eat your dinner, whereâs your Frisbee, etc.
Midas would do well with lots of space and a strong, calm adult (maybe a male, but he is most bonded with me, and I am a female), older or adult children. His new family will need to be patient, giving him time to adjust to his new circumstances. Filas bond for life, and although this change will be difficult for him, if his new owners are patient, they will win the heart of an amazing and wonderful dog.
